The Airport Express 802.11n came out in 2008.

Let's Talk Tech Spec:

Wireless protocols:

  • Draft 802.11n2
  • 802.11a/b/g
  • Frequency bands

  • 2.4GHz
  • 5GHz
  • I received a few days ago an Apple Airport Express 802.11n, which I bought online, and after some negotiation, I got it for 4 euros. Few days after buying it, my Airport arrived. I factory reset it and completed the whole Airport configuration on my iPhone. Photo Airport Express Photo Airport Express
Which surprised me a lot, for an Apple product made back in 2008, the integration in the IOS's settings is clean. The little downside is the AirPort App, is that it feels like it was meant for the older iPhones without a notch, and in-app navigation feels strange, but I think it was designed for users with multiple Airport devices.

The First thing that came into my mind when holding it, was why is it so light? I was expecting to be has heavy as a MacBook Pro 96W power adpater. I also changed the AC plugs to a newer one that I had lying around and it and it felt a bit heavier. I also tried the extension power cord on it and it look quite funny. And something I didn't and still dont understand is why does it connect to my 5Ghz network, when it only support 2.4Ghz.

So after using it for a few days, it became a necessity in my audio setup. From now one I stream music from all my device (iPhone, Ipad and even from Apple Music on Windows), it also gave me the ability to have internet connection on my PowerMac G5, which make it way easier than the tweak i was using (sharing internet from my computer via ethernet to the PPC). The only downside it's that it doesnt support Airplay 2, it isnt a necessity but it has some features like multiroom that really interested me. But the Airport Express 802.11n Gen 2 has the Airplay 2 support, and it is way more expensive than the 1st Gen.
